PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which can surely maintain and recover a jetting state of ink by surely preventing an ink supply tube from clogging as a result of a viscosity increase of ink. SOLUTION: In order to surely remove the viscosity-increased ink remaining in a nozzle 16a of a recording head 1 and in the ink supply tube with a moisture permeability, at the time of an operation pause of the recording head 1, the ink jet recorder carries out ink suction to a nozzle plate 16 of the recording head 1 by a capping member 2 for sealing the nozzle plate 16 of the recording head 1 and a suction pump P for sucking the ink from the nozzle plate 16 by the condition of BT/A≥1.0 when an internal volume of the ink supply tube from an ink supply tank to the nozzle 16a is represented by A, a suction amount per unit time of the suction pump P is represented by B and a suction time by the suction pump A is represented by T.
