PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide location based service of a cell base and a GPS base in accordance with a location information providing function and a service request format which can be supported by a mobile terminal. SOLUTION: Mobile location based service system and method are constituted of an application server for providing location based service to a mobile terminal when the location based service is requested, and a location information providing system for identifying the location of the mobile terminal in accordance with the sort of the available located based service and transmitting the identified location to the application server. The location based service can be selectively provided by the cell base or the GPS base in accordance with the functions and service request format of a mobile communication subscriber's mobile terminal, and in the case of providing the location based service by the GPS base, the location based service is provided through an SMDPP (SMS delivery point to point) message transmitted through a No7 signal network, and the service is available also in the voice calling of the mobile terminal.
