PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing apparatus for discriminating the authenticity of data recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: A CRC code check section 27 compares a CRC code C1 received from a recording and reproducing section 23 with a CRC code C2 received from a CRC code generating section 22 to check whether or not the both are coincident at reproduction. When the both are coincident, the CRC code check section 27 discriminates that data D2 recorded on a magnetic tape MT are not falsified and outputs a signal denoting it to an external computer 30. Further, when the both are dissident, the CRC code check section 27 discriminates that the data D2 recorded on the magnetic tape MT are falsified. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
