PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium in which short wavelength region noise, output, C/N, overwrite characteristics are made superior, demagnetization characteristics in high temperature and high humidity environment, durability, still and friction coefficients are also made superior and low noise, high output and good running performance are specially provided so as to be suitable for a magnetic reluctance type (MR) head. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium is made by providing a magnetic layer, in which ferromagnetic metallic powder and linking agent are made into main bodies, on a supporting body. The particles sizes of the metallic powder in terms of average major axis length are 25 to 65nm, the range of average axis ratio is 3.5 to 6, crystalline size is 80 to 130Åand saturated magnetization amount (σs) is 70 to 130Am<SP>2</SP>/kg. The major components are Fe and Co and a Co/Fe ratio is made within the range of 35 to 100at%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
