PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polyester which can efficiently water treat polyester chips by utilizing economical water treatment facilities, can reduce the energy cost on treatment, simultaneously reduces the residual taste and odor when molded articles are produced from the polyester chips, and is effective for the mold staining. SOLUTION: The process for producing the polyester by water treating the polyester chips in a treatment tank comprises subjecting water to activation treatment and carrying out the water treatment by using the obtained water.
