A cleaning implement comprises a handle and a removable cleaning pad having an average absorbency rate of deionised water of not more than 0.5 (especially 0.2, more especially 0.1)g/sec, and a t1200 absorbent capacity of at least 1 (especially 10, more especially 20) g deionised water per g of the pad. Also claimed are: (1) A cleaning pad having an average absorbency rate of deionised water of not more than 0.5 (especially 0.2, more especially 0.1)g/sec and a t1200 absorbent capacity of at least 1 (especially 10, more especially 20)g deionised water per g of the pad; (2) a method for cleaning a hard surface using low levels of a cleaning solution comprising: (i) applying the cleaning solution to the hard surface at a level of not more than 6 ml/sq.ft. of surface; and (ii) wiping the surface with the cleaning implement as above; and (3) a method of cleaning a surface comprising wiping the surface with the cleaning implement as above. The removable pad comprises a scrubbing layer in direct fluid communication with the absorbent layer, an absorbent layer and an optical scrim material. The implement further comprises an attachment layer comprising fluid impervious material for mechanically attaching the pad to the handle, the absorbent layer being positioned in between the attachment layer and the scrubbing layer. The cleaning pad has a squeeze out value of not more than 40 (especially 25)% at 0.25 psi. The absorbent layer comprises a super-absorbent material selected from super-absorbent gelling polymers and hydrophilic polymeric absorbent foams.
