PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for handling coins, which can select specified coins provided at a coin selection path, by surely dropping the coin into a coin selection hole formed at the coin selection path, without enlarging the apparatus. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises a means for driving a coin selection unit, which moves a coin holding surface for pressing the coins by pressing a face of the coin downwards, by synchronizing the coin holding surface for moving to a retired position, and by moving, at the same time, the coin holder between the retired position where no coin can be held and a coin holding position where a partial edge of the coins can be held which are transferred in the coin selection path; and a control means for driving the means for driving the coin selection unit, on the basis of detected sensor signals. The apparatus features an arrangement for selecting the coins held with the coin holding surface by enforcing to drop the coins into the coin selection hole. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
