PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor identification device which reduces the number of detectors, eliminates the need for a modulation/demodulation circuit and an antenna, and which is capable of reducing the production cost of an apparatus. SOLUTION: Four pieces of magnets having mutual arrangement angles differentiated in accordance with the kind of a rotor are arranged on an arrangement grids which are set at equal angular intervals on the same circumference of a rotor 8. When the arrangement angle of the magnets 10 is detected, a plurality of magnetic sensors 21 are arranged at equal intervals of an angle larger than the arrangement grids and a prescribed calculation is performed with respect to the detected intensity of the magnet detected by the adjacent magnetic sensor. Thereby, the position of the magnet is calculated and the kind of the rotor is identified. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
