BACTERIOPHAGES AND REMEDIES FOR BACTERIAL INFECTION

It is intended to provide bacteriophages for producing phage preparations efficacious in preventing and treating MRSA, etc.; a lytic enzyme thereof; and a ligand to a bacterial surface receptor thereof. Namely, an isolated bacteriophage having (a) a DNA sequence encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1, or (b) a DNA sequence encoding a protein comprising an amino acid sequence derived from the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 by deletion, substitution or addition of one to several amino acids and having an enzymatic activity of digesting Staphylococcus aureus cell wall; and an isolated bacteriophage having (c) a DNA sequence encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:2, or (d) a DNA sequence encoding a protein comprising an amino acid sequence derived from the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:2 by deletion, substitution or addition of one to several amino acids and having a function as a ligand to the bacterial surface receptor of Staphylococcus aureus.
