PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling the load of an access channel in an EV-DO(EVolution Data Only) system is provided to differentially allocate an Apersistence(Access persistence) probability value for each terminal class in consideration of an effect that each terminal class has on the load of an access channel. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling the load of an access channel in an EV-DO system is comprised of an access packet receiving part(11), an access channel load measurement part(12), a load variation rate calculation part(13), a load comparison part(14), and an access parameter allocation part(15). The access packet receiving part(11) receives packets of an access channel periodically transmitted from a mobile terminal. The access channel load measurement part(12) periodically monitors the number of access channel packets received through the access packet receiving part(11), counts the data amount of packets received per unit time, and measures the load of the access channel. The load variation rate calculation part(13) calculates an access channel load variation rate, corresponding to the variation rate of an Apersistence probability value changed every access parameter modification period, for each terminal class and confirms an influence that each terminal class has on the load of the access channel. The load comparison part(14) compares the critical load of the access channel with the presently measured load of the access channel and confirms whether a modification of the Apersistence probability value of an access parameter for access channel load control is required. The access parameter allocation part(15) differentially allocates an Apersistence(Access persistence) probability value for each terminal class. |
