A coated regenerated cellulose sheet has a subcoat of a hydrophobic film-forming substance of a thickness of at the most 1m and a thermoplastic coat produced by applying an aqueous dispersion of the thermoplastic to the subcoat and drying the product. The regenerated cellulose sheet may comprise an adhesion agent e.g. urea- or melamine-formaldehyde. The subcoat may be a copolymer of 75-90% by weight of vinyl chloride, 10-25% by weight of vinyl acetate and 0,1-5% by weight of an a ,b -unsaturated acid or its anhydride e.g. maleic acid or its anhydride, fumaric, acrylic, methacrylic, crotonic or citraconic acid or a mixture thereof. The thermoplastic coat may be insoluble in ethyl acetate and the sub-coat may be soluble therein. The thermoplastic coat may be of a copolymer of vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile and methyl acrylate. The subcoat may be applied as a solution of the film-forming substance in an organic solvent. The coatings may be applied with a roller system and air brush. Narrow strips may remain uncoated along both edges of the sheet. The regenerated cellulose film may be plasticized.
|
