In a process for continuously treating manmade yarns, particularly yarns of regenerated cellulose in which a plurality of yarns advance through substantially helical paths, taking the yarns in succession, the path of each yarn is included in and partly touches the path of the following yarn, all the yarns are guided to take the same path length through the treatment zone and the same number of turns, and the turns are separated by a distance apart corresponding to the desired pitch of the helix, such separation taking place in a plane perpendicular to the axis of their helical travel. In Fig. 1, the yarns are caused to travel in helical paths along a treatment roller 10 divided into treatment zones by flanges 22.. 27. Feed rollers 11a 11b one for each yarn are provided of smaller diameter than roller 10 and having their axes inclined to the axis of roller 10, each yarn being arranged in turns around its roller 12 and the roller 10. The yarns follow a coincident path on the roller 10 and the path of the innermost yarn between the roller 10 and its feed roller is contained within the corresponding path of the next yarn and so on. Each group of yarns, in travelling to the roller 10 is guided between adjacent teeth of a comb which thus act, to maintain the turns in position, the separation between the yarns corresponding to the desired pitch of the helix on which the yarns travel, and the yarns are caused to pass over the flanges 22. 27 by guides 13. The guides and combs are arranged on a common rod 32 Fig. 5A, the guides being carried by an arc-shaped number 33, and the combs 30m plates 34 each fixed to a sleeve 35 on the rod, the sleeve having a gap 36, so that by rotating the sleeve clockwise the combs can be lowered to inoperative position. A further gap 37 is provided for each guide 13 enabling the latter to be pushed through the rod and the gap 36 into the arc-member 33 where it is held by a washer 38. At the start of an operation, the combs are turned out of operative position, the rollers are laced-up with the yarns arranged in turns at the desired pitch, and the combs turned to operative position to maintain the turns in position.
