PURPOSE: A method for automatically re-transmitting a transmission-failed instant message due to user absence is provided to store a message failed in transmission due to member's state information asynchronization, and automatically re-transmit the stored message when the state information of the member is changed to a on-line state. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a member to which the user intends to transmit a message among listed members of an instant messenger(S400). When a window for creating a message is displayed on a screen of a mobile phone, the user creates a message content and presses a message transmission button. A controller transmits the message to a corresponding member(S402). The controller determines whether message transmission has been successful(S404). If the message transmission has been failed, the controller stores the message content in a memory of the mobile phone(S406). The controller checks state information of the corresponding member at every certain time(S408). When the state information of the corresponding member is changed to an on-line state, the controller automatically re-transmits the message stored in the memory(S410).
