The system has at least one exhaust system turbine and at least one charging air system compressor coupled via a common shaft, at least a first catalyser in series with and after the turbine, a device for rapid heating of the first catalyser at low engine temperatures with a bridging pipeline parallel to the at least one turbine and a switching device downstream of the bridged turbine for feeding some gas via the turbine and some via the pipeline.
