<p>An x-ray shielded imaging detector (200) is disclosed. In one embodiment, the x-ray shielded imaging detector (200) comprises a scintillator (202), a photodetector (222), and an optical connection (208) between the scintillator (202) and the photodetector (222). The x-ray shielded imaging detector (200) also includes a first high density shielding material (210, 212) adjacent the optical connection (208). The first high density shielding material (210, 212) absorbs x-ray energy and attenuates it before the x-ray energy reaches the photodetector (222) when the x-ray energy impinges on the x-ray shielded imaging detector (200) at an angle other than perpendicular to a major axis of the scintillator (202) and the photodetector (222).
