PURPOSE: An apparatus for sensing the opening of a paper discharging cover of an electrophotographic printer is provided to monitor paper jam and the opening and closing of a paper discharging cover with a single sensor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for sensing opening of a paper discharging cover(100) of an electrophotographic printer includes the paper discharging cover, an actuator(110), a sensor(120), and a controller(130). The paper discharging cover is provided in the main body of the printer. The actuator is rotatably installed at the paper discharging cover and operated by paper transferred from the printer main body. The sensor senses the operation of the actuator. The controller receives a signal from the sensor. When the actuator is operated by the paper or the paper discharging cover is opened, the sensor transmits the signal to the controller.
