SUBSTANCE: invention relates to new method for combined preparing 1,3-dialkyl-1,5-pentane- diol of the formula (1) and 1,4-dialkyl-1,5-pentanediol of the formula (2) wherein values R and R1 in formulas (1) and (2) are similar and taken among R = n-C4H9, n-C6H13; R1-CH3, n-C3H7, Method involves interaction of alpha--olefin of the general formula wherein R is n-C4H9, n-C6H13 with triethyl- aluminum in the presence of zirconacene dichloride of the formula Cp2ZrCl2 as a catalyst in inert gas atmosphere in the mole ratio : AlEt3 : Cp2ZrCl2 = 10:(10-14):(0.3-0.7), respectively, at room temperature followed by cooling of reaction mixture, addition of cuprous chloride as a catalyst and aldehyde of the formula R1CHO wherein R1- is CH3, n-C3H7, taken in the mole ratio = CuCl : R1CHO = (0.8-1.2): (10-14), respectively, followed by stirring at room temperature, oxidation of reaction mass and hydrolysis. The total yield of 1,3-trialkyl-1,5-pentanediol (1) and 1,4-trialkyl-1,5-pentanediol 92) is 42-64%. These compounds can be used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, textile, food, paint and varnish branches of industry and also in producing antifreezes, hydraulic liquids, explosive nitric acid esters.
