A multi-track head 1 is spaced from a drum 2 by the air-cushion formed between the drum and a recess 9. The same air-pressure is applied between the head 1 and a fixed member 4 connected by a bellows 3 to urge the head 1 towards the drum maintaining the drum-spacing constant irrespective of the air-pressure. The spacing is adjusted by a throttle screw 6, while the slight elasticity of the bellows 3 withdraws the head from the drum if the air-pressure supply fails. Cheeks (Fig. 2, not shown) allow the head to be adjusted for use with differing drum diameters. |
