PURPOSE: A method for improving data throughput in a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) mobile communication system when hand-off is generated is provided to reduce the retransmission rate of a terminal and improve the data throughput by assigning a supplemental channel to the terminal in a base station with the best wireless environment. CONSTITUTION: A base station(100) periodically transmits a command message to a terminal(200)(S102). The terminal(200) receives the command message, and transmits a PSMM(Pilot Strength Measurement Message) to the base station(100)(S103). The base station(100) receives the PSMM, analyzes the received PSMM, and grasps current wireless environment of the terminal(200)(S104). A base station with the best wireless environment assigns a supplemental channel to the terminal(200) for reducing the retransmission rate of the terminal(200) and enhancing the data throughput of the terminal(200)(S105).
