PURPOSE: To improve the operating margin, resolution, luminance, etc., of a method for driving a plasma display panel(PDP) and a plasma display system by improving the method for driving the interlace type PDP. CONSTITUTION: The PDP is provided with discharge gaps held between adjacent electrodes among a plurality of the electrodes arranged in one direction on a substrate to generate discharges and non-discharge gaps of not generating the discharges and is formed by alternately arranging the discharge gaps and the non-discharge gaps, by electrically coupling each of the electrode pairs holding the non-discharge gaps therebetween and by segmenting the discharge gaps to a plurality of cells for discharge. The driving method drives the above PDP so as to perform display by using two kinds of frames; odd frames and even frames. At this time, the method drives the PDP so as to shift the combinations of the cells by one cell each to a direction intersecting with the electrode pairs in the odd frames and the even frames by controlling the lighting state of the respective cells with the two or three cells adjacent to each other in the direction intersecting with the electrode pairs as one set. |
