A reagent for use in a serological pregnancy test comprises a suspension of particles, having an average diameter of 0,81 microns and which are chemically inert, having adsorbed thereon human chorionic gonadotrophin. Suitably, the particles are made of polystyrene. In use, an incubated urine-antiserum mixture is added to a suspension of the above particles in an aqueous solution isotonic with the said mixture, which may have a pH of 7,9-8,8, and the whole is incubated. Agglutination of the particles occurs if no inhibition of the antibody of the antiserum has occurred on account of the presence of human chorionic gonadotrophin in the urine sample and the particles can be sedimented by light centrifugation. If the resulting supernatant is cloudy, HCG is present in the urine, inhibiting the anti serum from subsequently causing agglutination of the solid particles and the test is positive. If the supernatant is clear, the test is negative.
