A door closing and checking device comprises a spindle 4 rotatably mounted in a housing 1 near one end thereof, a checking mechanism 19 which co-operates with the spindle to retard the closing of the door, and a door closing mechanism incorporating a carriage 11 which moves along a track 13 positioned in the housing and is biased towards a co-operating surface 17 on the spindle, the checking and closing mechanisms being interchangeably mounted side by side in the housing and the track being detachable from the housing and replaceable therein in another position so as to be suitably located for guiding the carriage after the interchange has been effected. The checking mechanism is a fluid dashpot comprising a piston 21 located at one end in a recess 18 and a cylinder 19 guided by a cylinder guide 23 and having a head 26 carrying a roller 30 engaging a projection 31 on the cam member 17. The carriage 11 has rollers 12 which run on the track 13 and a roller 16 engaging the cam member 17 and is biased by springs 9, 10 guided by an assembly 8 seated on a semi-cylindrical projection 6 in the housing. The track is held in position by a projection 14 and recess 15. When the mechanisms are interchanged the cam member 17 integral with the spindle 4 is replaced by another of opposite hand. The cam surface may have a number of notches engageable by the roller 16 to hold the door in various predetermined positions. |
