PURPOSE: To provide a camera system and a message output method for improving convenience of a camera when the camera system is used abroad. CONSTITUTION: The camera system is provided with a memory wherein a plurality of messages respectively expressed in different languages(Japanese, English, French, etc.) and having the same meaning are stored. A user preliminarily designates a main language being user's mother tongue and an auxiliary language being a language spoken in the regions of a travel destination, and the messages of the designated languages are stored. When a photographing request button is depressed while a travel mode is set, request messages M1 for requesting photographing which are expressed in the auxiliary language and the main language are displayed on a picture(the message expressed in the main language may be omitted). Thus a user who is unfamiliar with foreign languages can show request messages M1 to a native to easily request the native to photograph the user and can confirm the contents of the messages simultaneously. Messages indicating an operation method in a prescribed photographic mode may also be prepared.
