PURPOSE: To enable a washing stage having a soaking stage over a long period of time and a rinsing stage to be carried out automatically and further enable some foreign materials generated inside a washing machine to be removed through a cleaning method in a washing machine in which some foreign materials such as black mold generated inside the washing machine are cleaned. CONSTITUTION: This cleaning method includes a washing stage for cleaning a washing tank, an agitating vane rotatably arranged at the bottom part of the washing tub and an inside part of an outer tub storing the agitating vane in it with a liquid containing a detergent and a rinsing stage to be carried out after this washing stage. The washing stage executes a stage for making a cleaning liquid of a predetermined concentration within the washing tub and the outer tub, a soaking stage accompanying an intermittent reverse rotation of the agitating vane and the rinsing stage having a draining stage for discharging the cleaning liquid in the washing tub.
