COMPATIBLE OPTICAL PICKUP AND METHOD FOR RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DISK

PURPOSE: A compatible optical pickup and a method for recording and reproducing a disk are provided to reduce the manufacturing cost of an optical pickup by setting up only a first laser diode to be used for both CD and DVD in writing data. CONSTITUTION: A first laser diode(100) of high output and a second laser diode(110) of low output emit beams different in wavelength. A first optical path converter(120) and a second optical path converter(123) convert a path of each beam emitted from the first laser diode and the second laser diode. An objective lens(129) focuses the beam emitted from the first laser diode or the second laser diode on a CD(Compact Disk)(117) or a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk)(107). A photo detector(130) detects the beam reflected from the CD or the DVD. A compatible optical pickup writes data on the CD and the DVD by the first laser diode, reproduces the data written of the DVD by the first laser diode, and reproduces the data written on the CD by the second laser diode.
