A support system for a boom which positions signals, signs etc. above a roadway or above a railway track has a pivot yoke mounted under a support plate (1) fitted to an upright support, and with the yoke providing a horizontal pivot for two support sleeves (2, 3) for the booms. The yoke also swivels about a vertical axis and is further supported by overhead cables fitted to the upright support above the boom mounting. The support system is easily released to swing aside to permit the passage of extra high vehicles, e.g. special transporters, bulky loads etc.
