A prophy chip comprising a hollow cup-shaped core of such type as canopy (semispherical) type, cylindrical type, cup type, cone type, inverted cone type or disk type, covered with a hydrophilic grindstone sponge containing a polishing agent, the hydrophilic grindstone sponge side edge either being press fixed by being folded into the interior of the core by a shank-equipped latch plate or undulated for gripping purpose, a shaft fixed to avoid resonance around the latch plate bottom surface rotation axis during rotation, thereby providing a cleaning, polishing and burnishing prophy chip which maintains polishing efficiency without involving transverse oscillations in polishing barrel-shaped tooth clearances or adjacent surfaces and without using a polishing gel or paste , with less heat generated by friction.
