A process for increasing the abrasion resistance and wet tensile strength of a fibre, film and filament forming polyamide comprises uniformly dispersing in said polyamide at any time prior to the preparation of films, fibres and filaments thereof from 0.1 to 5.0% by weight of the polyamide of a partially oxidized polyethylene polymer capable of forming an emulsion in aqueous solutions and having a molecular weight of not less than 1000 but not more than 3000, an acid number of not less than 9 but not more than 16, and a saponification number of not less than 24 but more more than 30. In Example (I) a polyamide is made from hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid, converted into chips and blended with a partially oxidized granular polyethylene and (II) an aqueous solution of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid is brought to reaction conditions, partially oxidized granular polyethylene added thereto and the condensation completed.
