<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a laser device and an optical disk drive small in size and light in weight by stabilizing a laser beam source and making its output high, and incorporating the high-output laser light source in the laser device and optical disk drive. <P>SOLUTION: After a polarization inverting layer 3 is formed on an LiT0<SB>3</SB>substrate 1, an optical waveguide is formed. A light wavelength converting element which is thus formed is annealed at low temperature to form a stable proton exchange layer 8a such that an increase in refractive index which is caused in a high-temperature heat treatment is lowered, thereby obtaining a stable light wavelength converting element. Consequently, a phase matching wavelength becomes constant and variation in higher harmonic output is eliminated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
