PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetron by which leakage of electrons is prevented by varying the geometric structures of an upper shield and a lower shield to make symmetrical an electric charge distribution within a working space. SOLUTION: The magnetron comprises a positive electrode cylinder, a plurality of vanes arranged within the positive electrode cylinder so as to form a positive electrode part together with the positive electrode cylinder, a filament arranged on an axis of the positive electrode cylinder for forming a working space together with the tip surfaces of the vanes to emit thermions, an upper shield covering an upper part of the filament, a lower shield covering a lower part of the filament, and upper and lower magnetic electrode pieces arranged in a state respectively separated from the upper shield and the lower shield for inducing a magnetic flux within the working space. The upper shield has a lower surface formed so as to protrude downward as a whole, or the lower shield has an upper surface formed so as to protrude upward as a whole. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
