PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a funnel with which a light-weighted and safe cathode-ray tube that has a wide deflection-angle and a short depth by suppressing increase of a deforming stress generated in the outer surface without causing weight increase can be produced. SOLUTION: In the glass funnel for the cathode-ray tube, the deflection-angle is 120°or more, and a recess 12 is formed in a funnel body part 10 of the surrounding of a yoke part 9, and the depth of the recess 12 is made to be 10 mm or more, and a compressive stress layer is formed at a position where a tensile stress generated on the exterior face of the funnel body part 10 should become the maximum valueσVTmax. The compressive stress valueσCof the compressive stress layer is made to be 80-350 MPa, thickness of the compressive stress layer is made to be 60μm or more, and the aboveσVTmaxis made to be 10-100 MPa.
