PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk player capable of keep playing by quickly and surely transferring a pickup to a desired fast forward position or a fast rewind position while preventing occurrence of errors at the time of performing a fast forwarding or a fast rewinding when playing data back. SOLUTION: When a fast forward button FF or a fast rewind button FR is pushed when playing back the data stored in an optical disk 1, a pickup 2 is stopped and a period when the button FF or the button FR is pushed is measured. Then, when the button FF or the button FR is released, the position of the position of a fast forward destination or the position of a fast rewind destination is calculated based on the measure period and after the pickup 2 is transferred to the calculated position at speed faster than that in a playing time, the data are played back by reading the data stored on the optical disk 1 with the pickup 2.
