PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine, saving a space for a connection terminal portion of an ignition coil and offering construction permitting accurate sealing thereof. SOLUTION: An engine side contact portion 2c provided around a plate spring terminal 5 on the inner periphery face of a coil storage portion 2a has a tapered shape enlarged upward. A closed curve seal member 5a is provided to encircle the plate spring terminal 5 and a planar terminal 7a between the engine side contact portion 2c and a coil side contact portion 7 in the condition of the ignition coil 3 being assembled on an engine head cover 2. Thus, the ignition coil 3 can be smoothly assembled on the engine head cover 2 with no existence of the engine side contact portion 2c as an obstacle during assembly. Accurate sealing is allowed for blow-by gas leaking out of a plug hole 22 or rainwater entering from a ventilation passage 2g. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
