The present invention relates to the use of at least one compound selected from the group comprising compounds of formulas 1a and 1b physiologically acceptable salts thereof, and stereoisomeric forms thereof, in which R<1 >denotes H oder alkyl, R<2 >denotes H, COOH, COO-alkyl or CO-NH-R<5>, R<3 >and R<4 >each independently denote H or OH, n is 1, 2 or 3, R<5 >denotes H, alkyl, an amino acid group, a dipeptide residue or a tripeptide residue, and alkyl denotes an alky group containing from 1 to 4 carbons, for protection of stress proteins in the skin. These compounds are used in the present invention in the form of a topical composition.
