Preventive and/or therapeutic drugs for itch containing as the active ingredient substances capable of suppressing the functions of GPR4 relating to signal transduction; and nitrogen-containing tricyclic compounds represented by the general formula (I), quaternary ammonium salts thereof, or pharmacologically acceptable salts of both: (I) wherein R1 is substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl or the like; R2 is hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, or the like; R3 and R4 are each independently hydrogen, lower alkyl, or the like; n is 0 or 1; X is -(CH2)2- or the like; and Y is a group represented by the general formula (II): (II) (wherein W is CH or nitrogen; Z1 and Z2 are each independently hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, or the like; and Z3 is hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, or the like).
