<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of effectively removing sulfur contained in a raw fuel used for producing fuel hydrogen for a fuel cell under low pressure conditions and a fuel cell system using the method. <P>SOLUTION: Hydrocarbons containing sulfur are brought into contact with a catalyst (1) in which 0.1-50 mass% as an element of a rare earth element or a rare earth element compound is supported on Y-type zeolite, a catalyst (2) in which 0.01-10 mass% of at least one selected from Pt, Pd and Re is supported on a carrier containing zeolite and/or a clay compound of 30 mass% or more, and a catalyst (3) containing at least 20 mass% as an element of a metal or the metal oxide selected from among Zn, Ni, and Cu, so that the sulfur content of the hydrocarbons can be reduced to be 0.1 mass ppm<SP></SP>or below by desulfurization. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
