<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct recoding, even when the recording can not be made in a designated mode due to clogging of the head. <P>SOLUTION: This is a recording device, which compresses the amount of information of image data and records the image data on a magnetic tape by using a rotating head for use in a standard recording mode and a rotating head for use in a high-compression recording mode in a mode selected from the standard recording mode and the high-compression recording mode.
