<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect failures of transmitting and receiving functions of an interrogator in a transponder for doing a two-way communication between the interrogator and a responder utilizing a microwave. <P>SOLUTION: The transponder is composed of an interrogator Q having transmitting functions (1-4) for transmitting a write wave S<SB>1</SB>and an interrogative wave S<SB>2</SB>and receiving functions (5-7, 1) for receiving a response wave S<SB>3</SB>, and a responder R for receiving the write wave S<SB>1</SB>and the interrogative wave S<SB>2</SB>transmitted from the interrogator Q and returning an inner response signal as the response wave S<SB>3</SB>to the interrogator Q after spread-modulation. The interrogator Q has means (20, 21) for detecting failures of its own functions, thereby diagnosing whether the operations of the transmitting functions and the receiving functions of the interrogator Q are normal to detect any failure of the apparatus. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
