STEREO MOVING PICTURE CODING METHOD AND APPARATUS, PROGRAM FOR CODING STEREO MOVING PICTURE, AND RECORDING MEDIUM FOR THE PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve coding efficiency when coding one moving picture as a base layer and coding the other moving picture as an enhancement layer.

SOLUTION: With respect to a picture class of a coding target picture of the enhancement layer, when the base layer is of I-pictures, pictures are coded as P-pictures using parallax compensation and when the base layer is of other than I-pictures with equal prediction accuracies of motion compensation and parallax compensation, pictures are coded as B-pictures using the motion compensation and the parallax compensation. When the prediction accuracy of the motion compensation is higher in comparison with the prediction accuracy of the parallax compensation, pictures are coded as P-pictures using the motion compensation and when the prediction accuracy of the parallax compensation is higher in comparison with the prediction accuracy of the motion compensation, pictures are coded as P-pictures using the parallax compensation.
