<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for clarification of characteristics of polymer molecules. <P>SOLUTION: The method for observation and determination of dimensions of individual molecule and for determination of weight distribution of a polydispersed sample: comprises placing a molecule in a media, applying external forces, inducing change of conformation/position; and then measuring the change. A preferable method for measuring the change of conformation/position: comprises (1) determination of relaxation rate of deformable molecules after applying the external force, (2) measuring rate of reorientation of the molecule in changing the direction of the external force, (3) determining the rotational speed of the molecule, (4) determining the length of the molecule when the molecule extended partially or (5) measuring the diameter of the molecule. The method includes use of an optical microscope linked to an image processing apparatus or use of a microscope linked to a spectroscopic apparatus. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
