PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Stirling engine and an actuator capable of suitably changing an operating cycle of a displacer without any restriction in the arranging direction of a case. SOLUTION: A Stirling engine is provided with the case, the displacer arranged in the case slidably, an expansion chamber and a working chamber where working gas flowing with the operation of the displacer flows in and out, and a power piston which is operated corresponding to the working gas in the working chamber. There are provided with a movable yoke arranged in the displacer, a displacer operating mechanism provided with a pair of electromagnetic solenoids arranged in the case and annexed to the axial direction surrounding the movable yoke, a power piston position detecting means for detecting the operating position of the power piston, and a control means for controlling to changeover the excitation of a pair of the displacer operating mechanism based on a detected signal from the power piston position detecting means.
