PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4,4'-biphenol with a low metal content. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 4,4'-biphenol comprises steps (a) to (c). A step (a) of subjecting alkyl-4,4'-biphenols represented by formula (2) (wherein, T<SB>1</SB>and T<SB>2</SB>are each an alkyl; m and n are each 0-2; and the sum of m and n is 1-4) to a dealkylating reaction and providing a reaction liquid containing the 4,4'-biphenol, a step (b) of mixing one group of solvent selected from (i) to (iv) with water and the reaction liquid obtained in step (a) and depositing the 4,4'-biphenol and a step (c) of separating the 4,4'-biphenol deposited in the step (b). In the process, (i) is any one kind of an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent and an aliphatic ketone solvent and (ii) is a solvent selected from an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent. (iii) is a mixed solvent of any one kind of the aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent and the aliphatic ketone solvent with a phenol compound and (iv) is a mixed solvent of the aromatic hydrocarbon solvent with the phenol compound.
