PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for transmitting and receiving information in an exchange are provided to separate a voice communication and a data communication, efficiently use a bandwidth, and secure a quick transmission speed when using the data communication. CONSTITUTION: An information processing unit(212) receives information transmitted from a terminal(200) in a line card(212a) and an SHDSL(Symmetric High bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) board(212b) according to the format of information, and processes received information. A switching unit(214) selects a transmission path of information transmitted from the information processing unit(212). A trunk unit(216) converts the format of information transmitted from the switching unit(214), and adjusts a transmission speed.
