PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a defective pixel inconspicuous as much as possible when an image is displayed on an active matrix type liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: The active matrix type liquid crystal panel has hundreds of thousands of active elements, so there are even some defective pixels due to defects of elements. When an image shown in Fig. is displayed on the liquid crystal panel, bright points 1204, 1205, etc., are possibly recognized as defective pixels, but the positions and states of the defective pixels are detected and the display image (i.e. the positions of Mt. Fuji and clouds) is moved. For example, when the bright points 1204 and 1205 are hidden behind the display image (i.e. clouds in Fig.), the defective pixels becomes inconspicuous.
