PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bush cutter operation rod which can readily be manufactured, can be compacted, when not used, for example, when transported or when stored, and can easily be handled, and to provide a bush cutter. SOLUTION: This operation rod is characterized in that the tip direction S of a flexible shaft 4 having a connection portion 3 to be connected to a driving source 10 at the rear end and having an extended portion length L2 in addition to the maximum elongation length L1 of the operation rods 1a, 1b is inserted into the stretchable rigid operation rods 1a, 1b capable of maintaining a stretched state and further that the flexible shaft 4 is drivably connected to a blade 5 disposed at the tip 1c of the operation rods 1a, 1b.
