PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device capable of surely executing a stable tracking control and short in tracking convergence time normally, and to provided its control method. SOLUTION: This optical disk device is provided with an offset correction section for correcting the offset of a tracking error signal by detecting the offset of the same, a determination section for determining whether an optical spot follows an information track or not during the control by a tracking control section, and a control section for stopping, when the determination section determines that the optical spot does not follow the information track during the tracking control, the operation of the tracking control section to operate the offset correction section, and operating the tracking control section again after the completion of the offset correction of the tracking error signal.
