PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the recording density of a recording medium by reducing the cycle of surface concave and convex shapes of an undercoat layer formed on the lower side of an information recording layer to increase the concave and convex level difference. SOLUTION: This recording medium is constituted in such a manner that at least an undercoat layer and an information recording layer are formed in this order on a substrate, the information recording layer is made of a rare earth-transition metal amorphous magnetic alloy, the surface concave and convex cycle T of the undercoat layer is 1nm≤T≤15nm, and a surface concave and convex level difference W is 0.5nm≤W≤3nm.
