摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a liquid crystal element or the like and to provide a display device, particularly for displaying with gradation, in which a gradation is excellently displayed without generating the decrease in contrast, a flickering of display, a cross talk or the like. SOLUTION: The method and device are characterized by the fact that the gradation display is performed by applying a voltage which is weighted according to a desired display data in respective divided and selected terms by successively and simultaneously selecting a plurality of scanning electrodes and dividing the selected term into a plurality of terms in the device in which liquid crystal elements or the like, which are composed by inserting a liquid crystal layer between a substrate having scanning electrodes X<SB>1</SB>, X<SB>2</SB>and so on and a substrate having signal electrodes Y<SB>1</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>and so on, are multiplex-driven.
