PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain anα-olefin polymerization catalyst with which removal of a catalyst residue and an amorphous polymer is not required and which has sufficient catalytic activity. SOLUTION: Theα-olefin polymerization catalyst comprises a titanium compound-containing solid catalyst component (B) which is obtained by a process for reducing a titanium compound represented by the general formula: Ti(OR<SP>1</SP>)<SB>a</SB>X<SB>4-a</SB>with an organomagnesium compound in the presence of a Si-O bond-containing organosilicon compound and aging the reduction product in an inert hydrocarbon solvent at least for 18 hours while intermittently stirring to give a solid product (A) and an activation process for treating the solid product (A) in the presence of an ether compound, titanium tetrachloride and an organic acid halide compound to give an organic acid halide treated solid and reacting organic acid halide treated solid with a mixture of the ether compound, titanium tetrachloride and an ester compound or a mixture of the ether compound and titanium tetrachloride, an organoaluminum component (C) and an electron donative compound (D).
