PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a terminal alkyne in high yield from an aldehyde in a single step and simple operation under mild conditions with wide raw material selectivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the terminal alkyne comprises carrying out a reaction of an aldehyde with a reaction reagent prepared by reducing a carbon tetrahalide with a bivalent chromium compound, more specifically, making carbon tetrabromide and chromium(II) chloride act on the aldehyde.
